Preventive measures at home during Covid-19

GOOD HYGIENE

The hygiene necessity in addition to the every day scenario is now multi-fold. We have to act preventive on an enhanced scale to ensure that we have a safe environment for our loved ones at home.

FREQUENTLY TOUCHED AREAS SHOULD BE CLEANED

Ensure that the door handles and knobs and switches and other frequently touched areas are cleaned in addition to your electronic products like Smartphones and TV remotes.

KEEP WASHING YOUR HANDS

Go a bit more stringent on washing your hands. Clean them, rub them with soap and wash for as good as 20 secs. Ensure every nook and corner is covered and cleaned. If soaps and water are not handy, go in for an alcohol-based hand sanitiser with a minimum 60% alcohol.

CLEAN BEFORE DISINFECTING

Thorough cleaning norms means first to clean the surface by sanitising to remove dirt, dust and germs from the surface.

The second process is disinfecting, where we destroy the microorganisms on the surface and preventing infection. The third process is sterilising, the objective of this process is killing microbials like fungi, bacteria and viruses.

To a greater extent we can only engage in the first two processes at home. For disinfecting, we can use isopropyl alcohol in the concentration of 60-99% for cleaning the surface area.

USING WARM WATER

Warm water should be used to wash clothes and for cleaning floor. Warm water to an extent is effective in killing germs.

HYGIENE IN THE KITCHEN

Kitchen is a place that is constantly under make and try for food and therefore cleanliness in the kitchen is a primary concern. Keep the working surfaces clean and ensure you wash all the veggies and fruits before consuming. All the milk bags should be cleaned thoroughly.

GROCERY MANAGEMENT

A full-fledged family needs a constant grocery supply and therefore such critical lockdown scenarios might leave you crippled for some items. Try and stock up grocery but in a considerable amount. Ensure you are not hoarding all the stuff and leaving other needy and deprived. Take a count of your stock and home and replenish for a maximum of a month’s stock. This will ensure smooth operations at your home as well as no over stocking.

The perishables should be considered importantly. In case, there is no supply for milk, get tetra-packs or milk powder for your daily needs.

WORKING FROM HOME

We are the privileged ones to work from home. If your organisation is in a fully non-operational mode, it is the best time for you to build up a skill. Read, learn, paint, exercise, cook, bake, write your diary, talk, share and laugh. Bring your best to the family at this time and create your best memories.

Some restrictions are good. In the event of crisis, discipline matters in all aspects. Maintain hygiene and preventive healthcare because these are the worst times to be in a hospital.

Above all, remember, we are in a situation that has to be handled a little compassionately. Even during social distancing, ensure if you can reach out and help people.
